It was a very up and down performance for the Flyers. The defensive zone work was not that great, overall. For too much of the game the Isles seemed to be the hungrier team.

Hopefully they realize that they need to be better this weekend

Two weekend afternoon games? I'd be happy if they came away with 2 points this weekend.

Given the back to back games, I suspect they will put Bob in against the struggling Bs and Bryz in for what will be a hell of a match-up on Sunday.

Like many statistics, I belive that their afternoon game record is a mere anomaly. I dont hold much stock in it.

I don't know. They have not been good in such games for quite awhile -- not just this year -- and the defensive play in particular has often been horrendous in the weekend afternoon games. Of course, they've also played many of their toughest opponents in these games, so that figures in as well.

decent game lst night, small let down after that first goal which led to some scrambling. Need a better effort for this weekend though if we want 4pts. It 'd be great to dominate a slupping bruins team and then put in a solid workmans effort in on sunday against the pens. lets put the bad afternoon starts behind us and start a new shuout streak cant wait for these games

while the flyers went 4-1-1 against the isles this season, they were outplayed for much of those 6 games.

bruins are dropping like flies, thomas is exhausted, turco is not going to help, and the flyers, if they show up ready to play, should beat them.

pens are another story.

flyers need O from some other players.

Would be interesting to do an analysis on this for a blog. Looking at goals for/against and records of opponets in afternoon games over the last couple years. I suppose these games are set up for TV showcases so it would make sense that they are typically marquee matchups.

Get it done. Simple as that. No more excuses. Time to step it up this weekend. They have two tough games on the schedule and this should give everyone a good idea where this team is.

In Grossmann we trust. Dude is a shutdown defenseman. Love his addition.

combination of tough opponents, back to backs, and simply not being ready to play. and as you said, this has been going on for well beyond this season. i'd like to see their numbers back to 2005-06.

Back to back is a critical factor as well as if their opponent is also playing a back to back or not.

Hopefully he continues to tank. I hate the Bruins. Nothing would make me happier then watching them fall apart.

Watching the Rags fall apart would make me a little happier, but otherwise I agree.

I think the team to beat in the East is Pittsburgh. I believed that before the year started and still do. The Bruins havent been playing good hockey of late and the Rags have come back to earth a little. The Flyers are just as good as any of these teams. I can't wait to get to playoff hockey.

The Pens are playing scary good hockey right now. Nothing would make me happier than seeing the Flyers beat a red hot Penguins team.

EDIT: Well, nothing but a Stanley Cup parade down Broad St, and maybe winning the lottery.
